Privacy Policy
In this notice, “we”, “us” and “our” refers to Red Compass Insights Ltd (trading as Convergent Opinion) and its subsidiaries. This is a short version of our privacy policy to help you understand how we handle your data when you take part in our surveys or join our research panel.
What information we collect
- Postcode – used only to determine the constituency, local authority and ward you live in. We will never share your full postcode outside Red Compass Insights. We may share only a postcode sector (for example, “SW1A 2AA” would be shared as “SW1A 2**”).
- Special category data – this may include your political opinions, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or health information. You do not have to provide this information. You may select “prefer not to state” or skip the question.
- Contact details – if you agree to join our research panel or a discussion group, we collect your name, email address, and phone number, along with basic demographic information to help us match you to relevant studies.
Why we collect it
We collect this information for research purposes: to analyse trends, attitudes, and behaviours, to share aggregated insights with our clients or the public, and — if you have agreed to join our panel — to invite you to take part in future surveys and research projects that may be relevant to you.
Lawful basis for processing
- For survey responses containing special category data, we rely on your explicit consent (UK GDPR Articles 6(1)(a) and 9(2)(a)).
- For survey responses without special category data, we may rely on legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)).
- For storing your contact details on our research panel and contacting you about future surveys, we rely on your consent (Article 6(1)(a)), which you can withdraw at any time.
How we use and protect your data
- Your responses and contact details are stored securely in UK based data centres with restricted access, encryption, and secure deletion practices.
- Once survey collection ends, we pseudonymise and aggregate responses. The summary data we share with clients or publish cannot be used to identify you.
- We may retain personal identifiers on our database to link your responses across surveys if you take part in more than one of our studies over time.
- If you join our research panel, we will keep your contact details on file so that we can invite you to future research. Every invitation we send includes a one-click link to leave the panel. We will only contact you about research projects, and we will never sell or share your contact details with third parties for marketing purposes.
- If you have not responded to any of our invitations for an extended period, we may contact you to check you still wish to remain on the panel, and remove your details if we do not hear back.
Your rights
Under the UK GDPR, you have the right to access your data, request correction of inaccurate data, request deletion of your data, restrict or object to processing, request data portability (where feasible), withdraw consent at any time, and complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
Withdrawing your data or leaving the panel
You may withdraw your consent, leave the research panel, or request deletion of your personal data at any time by emailing info@convergent-opinion.com, or by clicking the unsubscribe link in any survey invitation we send you. Please include your full name and, if relevant, information about the survey you completed. Once we receive your request, we will remove your contact details from our panel and you will not be invited to take part in future research. Please note: once data is pseudonymised and aggregated, it may not be possible to remove your contribution from published results.
Children
Our surveys and panel are not directed at individuals under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
